Cabinet War Rooms

The Cabinet War Rooms located in the basement of the Treasury Buildings in Whitehall were abandoned after the Second World War and were subsequently converted into a Museum.

Our project was to restore a large number of abandoned storage rooms, which were originally the private chambers for Winston Churchill, his wife and staff, and incorporate them into the Museum. This entailed restoring the finishing’s and fittings back to their original condition based on historic records and photographs and providing new mechanical and electrical services.

Work also included major structural works and new infrastructure to form gallery space for the new Churchill Museum.

Sawyer Fisher were appointed as Tenant Agents acting for the Imperial War Museum, negotiating a design and build contract with the developers of the Government offices above, preparing budget estimates, negotiating the cost of the works and subsequent variations and monitoring the works on site.
