St Martin’s Church Herne

St Martin’s Church Herne is a large Grade 1 Listed building dating predominantly from the first half of the 14th Century, with many reused 12th and 13th Century blocks found in the 14th Century walls. An apsidal foundation found under the Lady Chapel possibly dates to Anglo Saxon or Norman periods.

Quantity surveying services were provided and the works in the contract consisted of three phases:

  • Phase l Repairs to the walls of the Tower and west windows of the Nave and Tower
  • Phase ll Repairs to masonry on the west elevation of the Nave and South Aisle and lower stage of the Tower on the west and north sides; new toilet facility in the South Chapel and associated below ground drainage
  • Phase lll Repairs to masonry on the upper stages of the Tower, opening up of 2 No doorways
